Three tips for choosing a carpet flooring color

Choosing color is often the most challenging part of any decorating project. Carpeting can be tricky.

There are so many colors, patterns, designs, and constructions it can be overwhelming. Here are some tips that will simplify it for you.

What to choose first?

When designing an empty room, always start with the design element with the least color choices. End with the one that has the most.

For example, most sofas, unless custom, have only four or five color choices per style.

Now choose the floor covering. Paint selections are almost unlimited, so that goes last. This logic applies to any room.

Bedding has a wide color selection, so carpet should go first. Without this approach, you could end up with something because it was the only choice.

Think about neutrals

Neutrals today are deep and rich. They are hardly dull.

If you need more visual interest, choose a rug with more texture. Or layer it with a colorful area rug.

Also, think about choosing one of the "new neutrals: like gray and blue. You can see these, and more, in our carpet store.

Look at samples in your own home

Lighting can vary depending on your source and furnishings. Ask to take samples home and examine them in your home's different lights, i.e., morning, dusk, and nighttime.
